About
I enjoy snowboarding to skating and I am a way more proficient snowboarder than skateboarder. But despite that and the lack of snow, this is one of my favorite pictures I’ve ever taken. It’s on the roof of American University where I studied acting before my current work at Speiser/Sturges Acting Studio.
I’m not much of a skateboarder when it comes to doing tricks, but I knew that, before graduation, there was a roof I wanted to skate and a sunset I wanted to see. I dedicated the majority of my time after work, that spring and summer before graduation, practicing tricks and figuring out the getting-on-the-roof problem, because once I dial in on a project, I’m going to see it through as best and as truthfully as I can. So when August rolled around, I did. Right at sunset, I went up to the roof with my skateboard, set up the camera, and got the shot.
I like that it’s hard to tell if it's even me – makes it feel more like a story that way. Over time I’ve realized that my approach to skating and snowboarding is the same as my approach to acting: I’m going to do whatever I can to get it right for the best shot possible.
